Shakespeare is able to create a humanized character by making sure that Othello ha some characteristics that most tragic warriors might lack. For instance, Othello is depicted as high romantic with regard to the way he treats his wife (Elliott, 1953). On the other hand he is capable of being brutal when his feelings are hurt. This is shown in the way he reacts after being convinced that Desdemona and Cassio were having an affair. The most notable dramatic elements of the play are seen in the way Iago is able to manipulate the behavior of other characters in the play, including Othello who is the main character. Even the Duke is convinced that his daughter would have been attracted to Othello after hearing the tale. However, Rodrigo and Iagodo not seem to see anyt hing positive about Othello’s difference in race. In fact, they use terms such as "thick lips" to refer to him. They use terms that are aimed at depicting Othello as someone who is less human (Jackson, 2007).
